Miles agrees to $1 million contract with Cardinals
ST. LOUIS (AP) – The St. Louis Cardinals and infielder Aaron Miles avoided arbitration on Tuesday, agreeing to a $1 million, one-year contract ahead of the deadline for teams to offer deals to unsigned players on their 40-man rosters.

SAN FRANCISCO — The Giants’ rotation just got better.
Left-handed pitcher Barry Zito has agreed to a seven-year, $126 million contract, according to The Associated Press and an MLB.com source.
Zito, 28, who has starred for the Oakland A’s the past seven seasons, was the most highly-prized free agent hurler, being wooed by the New York Mets, Seattle Mariners and Texas Rangers, but the long-time San Francisco resident decided to literally stay home.
Only Alex Rodriguez ($252 million), Derek Jeter ($189 million), Manny Ramirez ($160 million), Todd Helton ($141.5 million) and Alfonso Soriano ($136 million) have contracts with more guaranteed money.

As part of his agreement with the Giants, Zito will fund the construction of youth fields in the San Francisco area through his foundation.

The Giants reeled in the biggest free agent of the winter, signing left-hander Barry Zito to a seven-year contract. Zito, 28, has been a Bay Area star since debuting with the A’s in 2000, compiling a 102-63 record and 3.53 ERA in 222 starts for Oakland in his first six-plus seasons in the Majors.
A San Francisco resident and native Californian, Zito was the 2002 American League Cy Young Award winner, going 23-5 with a 2.75 ERA. The 6-foot-4, 210-pounder went 16-10 with a 3.83 ERA for the A’s in 2006 to help lead them to the AL Championship Series for the first time since 1992. Regarded as one of the game’s most durable and productive starters, Zito has made seven postseason starts in five trips to October and has made three All-Star appearances while making every start without injury during his six full seasons

The last team standing at the end of the 2006 season is among the seven teams reporting tomorrow. The World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals, led by ace right-hander Chris Carpenter, begin defense of their title in Jupiter, Fla.
The Cardinals made a few roster changes, including the return of second baseman Adam Kennedy, whom they traded to the Angels for Jim Edmonds seven years ago, but the bulk of a team that turned an 83-win regular season into a surprising World Series title returns. St. Louis will try to become the first team this decade to successfully defend its championship.
The distance from the Oakland Athletics’ Spring Training complex in Phoenix and the Giants’ practice fields in Tempe, Ariz., is about 10 miles. But it might seem like light years apart for left-hander Barry Zito, who begins his first season on the West side of the Bay Bridge.
After seven years, three All-Star Games and one AL Cy Young Award for the A’s, Zito inked a seven-year, $126 million contract with the Giants.

On August 7, 1997, Anaheim Angels minor leaguer Ramon Ortiz pitched a no-hitter for the Single A Cedar Rapids Kernels against the Quad City River Bandits – an Astros affiliate – and he got Aaron Miles for the final out. Nine years later, Ortiz, now with the Washington Nationals, took a no-hitter into the ninth inning against St. Louis, where it was broken up by — Aaron Miles.

If one million fans each pledged only a penny per K, that would mean $14,120,000 (including a $50,000 commitment from MLB Charities) for the Komen cause. A record 74 million fans attended Major League games last season, and millions of fans are on MLB.com and the 30 club sites every day and night. The people are here, the problem is still here, and people solve problems.
“Major League Baseball is a social institution with a responsibility to give back in meaningful ways to our fans and to the communities in which our clubs play,” said Tim Brosnan, MLB’s executive vice president, business. “Breast cancer affects many women and their families, which is why we are proud to work with our clubs, players and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation to increase awareness and funding to fight this disease.”
According to the Komen Foundation’s Spring 2006 “Frontline” newsletter, the National Cancer Institute reports that breast cancer remains the most common cancer among women, except for certain skin cancers. In 2006, it is expected that 212,920 women will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer. In addition to invasive breast cancer, 61,980 new cases of in situ (non-invasive) breast cancer will be diagnosed.

August 24 – went with my cousins husband, and got primo seats. He has never been to a ballgame in his life! Poor guy, subject to my screaming-but he did have a great time, and I made sure of it! He also took me to Willie Mays restaraunt in
WalnutCreek- if you get the chance to ever go, dont miss it! The San Francisco Giants will not bring all-time home run king Barry Bonds back for the 2008 season, the club announced today. He will conclude his 15-year career with the Giants during this week’s final homestand and next weekend’s final series in Los Angeles.
“No one is more aware of what Barry has meant to the Giants and San Francisco than I am,” said club President and Managing General Partner Peter Magowan. “He gave our ownership group instant credibility when we bought the team in 1993 and he helped transform the Giants into a consistent winner. For the first 11 years that he was here, the Giants had the third best record in baseball and Barry was a huge part of that success. Most importantly, Barry helped San Francisco become a baseball town again. I will forever be grateful for all of the success, excitement and memories that he created for our fans. However, all good things must come to an end and now seems like the right time to move on.”
Ok so I spoke to my Grandma today, the one in LA- and she professes to me-She is an Angels fan! She said she would love to go to the playoffs. How cool is that?
That time has come, and the clock is officially ticking.
After the conclusion of the World Series, which will play on without the Yankees for the fourth year in a row, Rodriguez has 10 days to inform the team whether he’s going to opt out of his current deal or not. The favorite for this season’s American League Most Valuable Player Award would easily be the top name in the free-agent class.
Should Rodriguez choose to remain in New York, he would command a $27 million salary for the 2008 season. With uber-agent Scott Boras heading the negotiation for Rodriguez, there’s a chance the Yankees may not know A-Rod’s decision until the last possible minute. It’s been speculated that the third baseman could make at least $30 million per year on the open market — reason enough to consider testing the waters.

Veteran switch-hitter returns with one-year pact

ST. LOUIS — The Cardinals brought back infielder Aaron Miles on Friday, acknowledging that though they have many infield candidates on their roster, few are sure things.
Miles, 31, signed a one-year pact for a reported $1.4 million. He had been non-tendered by the Cardinals on Dec. 12, making him a free agent, but re-signed on Friday. St. Louis let Miles walk in order to avoid going to arbitration, and the club likely signed Miles for less than he would have made via the arbitration process.
Miles batted .290 for the Cardinals in 2007, his highest since 2004, but virtually all of his other performance indicators remained static. He put up a .328 on-base percentage, right in line with his .323 career number, and his .348 slugging percentage was a bit below his career mark of .357.
The Cards’ putative starters in the middle infield are Cesar Izturis at shortstop and Adam Kennedy at second base. Izturis, once considered an elite defender, may not play at that level anymore and surely is not the caliber of hitter that he was in his career year of 2004. Kennedy, a steady performer for most of his career, struggled badly in 2007 and it is an open question what he can provide in ’08.
Backing them up was Brendan Ryan, who impressed in his Major League debut, but whom the club is reluctant to lean on without having an alternative in case the youngster drops off. Other potential middle infielders on the roster include Scott Spiezio and rookie hopefuls Brian Barden and Jarrett Hoffpauir.
Miles’ versatility endeared him to manager Tony La Russa — he played five positions, including pitcher, in 2007.
Infielder agrees to one-year deal with the Cardinals

ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis Cardinals announced today they have signed infielder Aaron Miles to a one-year deal for the 2008 season. The versatile infielder appeared at five different positions for the Cardinals last season, including his first Major League appearances in the outfield and as a pitcher.
Miles, 31, has spent the last two seasons with St. Louis where he compiled a .290 batting average last year in 133 total games. Between his two seasons with the Cardinals, the switch-hitter has gathered 232 hits, 46 extra-base hits and 62 RBI. He has a near identical average from either side of the plate, batting .284 from the right side of the plate and .274 as a lefthander during his time with St. Louis. Acquired mainly to serve in a utility role, he instead has proven to be a reliable regular with 202 starts in 268 games played. Aaron led the team with 19 infield hits last season and five bunt hits.
“Aaron has shown a great deal of versatility with our club over the past two years,” commented Cardinals Vice President/General Manager John Mozeliak. “He has proven to be a quality player both as a starter and off the bench and the value of a player like Aaron who can play several positions and hit from both sides can not be understated.”
Originally acquired in a trade with the Colorado Rockies December 2005, Miles became a free agent last month. He has just over four years service time in the Majors, with the majority coming with Colorado and St. Louis.

What’s the connection? Media. Content. The Major League Baseball Advanced Media (MLBAM).
When the discussion of revenue streams rises to the surface in discussions about Major League Baseball, almost always, without fail, television is the area where the media latch onto. But in recent years, a considerable revenue—and more correctly, profit source—has been the MLBAM.
Launched in 2000, MLB.com was funded by the clubs in an agreement that had them each investing $1 million a year over four years. The cost was targeted at $120 million. To the joy of the owners and MLB, the Website started generating excess revenue in only the second year of its existence, allowing them to invest only $70-$75 million before beginning to see a return on their investment.
When the decision to launch MLB.com occurred, MLB moved all of its Internet rights into a centralized location. No longer were team Websites controlled by individual clubs; now they were under a single umbrella. This was the start of a focused effort to completely control and centralize all products and services provided on the Internet by MLB.
To put just a few numbers into the discussion, from 2004 to 2005 sales on MLB.com rose 220% from the year prior with a 200% increase in sales through just the MLB.com Shop. MLBAM revenues for 2005 are expected to rise 88% to $260 million, and annual revenue is expected to jump 30-50% over each of the next five years. A huge cash cow for the 30 owners in MLB that get to split the profits. Last year, the MLBAM inked a deal with Microsoft and AOL to stream MLB games live onto PCs. That deal totals as much as $40 million over two years from just Microsoft alone. AOL’s deal totaled $9 million over the same period.
But where MLBAM has been extremely savvy has been in the diversification of holdings under the Advanced Media’s umbrella. Not counting the season’s $9.5 million in online ticket sales, MLB.com will still rack up an estimated $25 million this year in sales and auctions of licensed merchandise and collectibles.
In November of last year, Tickets.com was acquired by MLBAM. This allowed for broader control of and centralization of MLB related ticket transactions. It made good sense, as MLBAM had inked a three-year deal in 2003 to cover the lion’s share of ticket sales for MLB.com and was the exclusive online partner, providing service to 20 of the 30 franchises. The purchase price by MLBAM came in at $1.10 for all outstanding shares and totaled approximately $66 million.
Just last week, MLBAM acquired a 10% share in World Championship Sports Network (WCSN) and will be managing its website. The Network is known for global sports like track and field, rowing, wrestling and gymnastics. This move allows MLBAM to diversify into sports outside of baseball. WCSN has currently streamed around 150 hours of content over the last three months, but as MLBAM President Bob Bowman said in an interview, “There will be more coming.”
Beyond sports, MLBAM has inked deals with rock bands such as Bon Jovi and former Creed singer Scott Stapp.
Looking at what has transpired, it’s enough to make one shake his head. After all, MLB has been known for being glacial on change to the game and to the way business is conducted. The idea that some of the “Lords of Baseball” don’t use e-mail or believe in it seems well within the realm of possibility.
What really makes this arm of MLB stealthy and an absolute moneymaking machine came to light somewhat quietly in October when the major league owners decided to scrap plans for an initial public offer for MLBAM. Bank of America, Goldman Sachs, First Boston and J.P. Morgan tried in vain to get the owners to go forward with the IPO. After all, they had good reason to want to see it happen, as these analysts predicted the value of the IPO to be $2-2.5 billion.
The reason it didn’t move forward? Full public disclosure. MLB opening up the books? You must be joking. Besides, can you imagine how it would look to roll into the next round of collective bargaining after dispersing those kinds of funds around 30 ways? Somehow I doubt that selling a luxury tax again would gain much traction with the players’ union, and forget about ever discussing a salary cap in the near-to-distant future.
So on occasion, find your favorite search engine and type in “MLBAM.” In the biggest case of irony, the arm that controls all this Internet and media technology doesn’t even have its own website. As I said … stealthy.

Red Sox to open World Series title defense in Tokyo with two-game series against Athletics
The Boston Red Sox will open their World Series title defense in Tokyo.
Following months of negotiations, the Red Sox agreed to a two-game series against the Oakland Athletics in Japan on March 25-26, and the commissioner’s office announced the trip early Wednesday.
With Daisuke Matsuzaka and Hideki Okajima, the Red Sox figure to be an attractive draw for the games at the Tokyo Dome. The Red Sox and A’s also will play exhibition games on March 23-24 against Japanese teams.
TICKETS -JAPAN
MLB.com will make tickets for the games at the Tokyo Dome available to Oakland season ticket holders through a private, internet-only sale at some point in December. If tickets remain after the private sale, the rest will be made available to the public, also online.
The A’s are designated the “home team” in Japan, so they’ll lose two home dates at McAfee Coliseum, but they will not be running the ticket operations for games played at the Tokyo Dome.

The Tokyo Dome area has really enjoyed all the fans coming in for the games. Still we are rooting for our Japanese team to win all their games and be the champions.”
One of the more popular destinations in Tokyo Dome City is the Baseball Cafe, which has a large caricature of Hall of Famer and World Baseball Classic ambassador Tommy Lasorda, reaching his arms out to welcome fans into the establishment.
Inside the decor is totally baseball with the walls and tables covered with baseball artwork and memorabilia. MLB Production’s “Memorable Moment’s” DVD is looped on the monitors around the restaurant and the waiters and waitresses all wear baseball jerseys of their favorite teams.

The largest group of Hall of Famers at a Major League event in history will gather before this summer’s All-Star Game in Yankee Stadium, the league announced on Wednesday. More than 40 legends, including Robinson, Hank Aaron, Yogi Berra, Bob Feller, Whitey Ford, Reggie Jackson, Willie Mays and Cal Ripken Jr. are slated to attend, and to be honored during both a pregame ceremony and the All-Star Game Red Carpet Parade presented by Chevy.
The league also will pay tribute to New York City by featuring several city landmarks in its All-Star celebration. Major League Baseball will place 42 baseball-themed Statue of Liberty replicas at various locations around the city, and will illuminate the Empire State Building in red, white and blue lights throughout the weekend and during the game.
All the pomp is designed to make this All-Star game, the fourth in the Bronx and the eighth in New York City history, one of the most memorable ever. It will be televised nationally by FOX, in Canada by Rogers Sportsnet and Sportsnet HD, and around the world by Major League Baseball International, with pregame ceremonies beginning at 8 p.m. ET. SAN FRANCISCO — The Giants’ rotation just got better.
Left-handed pitcher Barry Zito has agreed to a seven-year, $126 million contract, according to The Associated Press and an MLB.com source.
Zito, 28, who has starred for the Oakland A’s the past seven seasons, was the most highly-prized free agent hurler, being wooed by the New York Mets, Seattle Mariners and Texas Rangers, but the long-time San Francisco resident decided to literally stay home.

Only Alex Rodriguez ($252 million), Derek Jeter ($189 million), Manny Ramirez ($160 million), Todd Helton ($141.5 million) and Alfonso Soriano ($136 million) have contracts with more guaranteed money.

The Giants reeled in the biggest free agent of the winter, signing left-hander Barry Zito to a seven-year contract. Zito, 28, has been a Bay Area star since debuting with the A’s in 2000, compiling a 102-63 record and 3.53 ERA in 222 starts for Oakland in his first six-plus seasons in the Majors.
A San Francisco resident and native Californian, Zito was the 2002 American League Cy Young Award winner, going 23-5 with a 2.75 ERA. The 6-foot-4, 210-pounder went 16-10 with a 3.83 ERA for the A’s in 2006 to help lead them to the AL Championship Series for the first time since 1992. Regarded as one of the game’s most durable and productive starters, Zito has made seven postseason starts in five trips to October and has made three All-Star appearances while making every start without injury during his six full seasons

The last team standing at the end of the 2006 season is among the seven teams reporting tomorrow. The World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals, led by ace right-hander Chris Carpenter, begin defense of their title in Jupiter, Fla.
The Cardinals made a few roster changes, including the return of second baseman Adam Kennedy, whom they traded to the Angels for Jim Edmonds seven years ago, but the bulk of a team that turned an 83-win regular season into a surprising World Series title returns. St. Louis will try to become the first team this decade to successfully defend its championship.
The distance from the Oakland Athletics’ Spring Training complex in Phoenix and the Giants’ practice fields in Tempe, Ariz., is about 10 miles. But it might seem like light years apart for left-hander Barry Zito, who begins his first season on the West side of the Bay Bridge.
After seven years, three All-Star Games and one AL Cy Young Award for the A’s, Zito inked a seven-year, $126 million contract with the Giants.
And that’s just a few of the storylines that will grab the attention of baseball-starved fans for the next six weeks.

Komen Breast Cancer Foundation to increase awareness and funding to fight this disease.”
According to the Komen Foundation’s Spring 2006 “Frontline” newsletter, the National Cancer Institute reports that breast cancer remains the most common cancer among women, except for certain skin cancers. In 2006, it is expected that 212,920 women will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer. In addition to invasive breast cancer, 61,980 new cases of in situ (non-invasive) breast cancer will be diagnosed.

The Giants got swept by my beloved Padres this weekend, even though Bonds hit #755. Way to go San Diego. And good luck to the A’s down the stretch, despite the fact that it looks real bleak for Oakland right now.

August 24 – went with my cousins husband, and got primo seats. He has never been to a ballgame in his life! Poor guy, subject to my screaming-but he did have a great time, and I made sure of it! He also took me to Willie Mays restaraunt in

Bonds says goodbye to Giants fans
Bonds will pursue the rest of his career elsewhere.
The San Francisco Giants will not bring all-time home run king Barry Bonds back for the 2008 season, the club announced today. He will conclude his 15-year career with the Giants during this week’s final homestand and next weekend’s final series in Los Angeles.
“No one is more aware of what Barry has meant to the Giants and San Francisco than I am,” said club President and Managing General Partner Peter Magowan. “He gave our ownership group instant credibility when we bought the team in 1993 and he helped transform the Giants into a consistent winner. For the first 11 years that he was here, the Giants had the third best record in baseball and Barry was a huge part of that success. Most importantly, Barry helped San Francisco become a baseball town again. I will forever be grateful for all of the success, excitement and memories that he created for our fans. However, all good things must come to an end and now seems like the right time to move on.”

That time has come, and the clock is officially ticking.
After the conclusion of the World Series, which will play on without the Yankees for the fourth year in a row, Rodriguez has 10 days to inform the team whether he’s going to opt out of his current deal or not. The favorite for this season’s American League Most Valuable Player Award would easily be the top name in the free-agent class.
Should Rodriguez choose to remain in New York, he would command a $27 million salary for the 2008 season. With uber-agent Scott Boras heading the negotiation for Rodriguez, there’s a chance the Yankees may not know A-Rod’s decision until the last possible minute. It’s been speculated that the third baseman could make at least $30 million per year on the open market — reason enough to consider testing the waters.

Veteran switch-hitter returns with one-year pact

ST. LOUIS — The Cardinals brought back infielder Aaron Miles on Friday, acknowledging that though they have many infield candidates on their roster, few are sure things.
Miles, 31, signed a one-year pact for a reported $1.4 million. He had been non-tendered by the Cardinals on Dec. 12, making him a free agent, but re-signed on Friday. St. Louis let Miles walk in order to avoid going to arbitration, and the club likely signed Miles for less than he would have made via the arbitration process.
Miles batted .290 for the Cardinals in 2007, his highest since 2004, but virtually all of his other performance indicators remained static. He put up a .328 on-base percentage, right in line with his .323 career number, and his .348 slugging percentage was a bit below his career mark of .357.
The Cards’ putative starters in the middle infield are Cesar Izturis at shortstop and Adam Kennedy at second base. Izturis, once considered an elite defender, may not play at that level anymore and surely is not the caliber of hitter that he was in his career year of 2004. Kennedy, a steady performer for most of his career, struggled badly in 2007 and it is an open question what he can provide in ’08.
Backing them up was Brendan Ryan, who impressed in his Major League debut, but whom the club is reluctant to lean on without having an alternative in case the youngster drops off. Other potential middle infielders on the roster include Scott Spiezio and rookie hopefuls Brian Barden and Jarrett Hoffpauir.
Miles’ versatility endeared him to manager Tony La Russa — he played five positions, including pitcher, in 2007.

ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis Cardinals announced today they have signed infielder Aaron Miles to a one-year deal for the 2008 season. The versatile infielder appeared at five different positions for the Cardinals last season, including his first Major League appearances in the outfield and as a pitcher.
Miles, 31, has spent the last two seasons with St. Louis where he compiled a .290 batting average last year in 133 total games. Between his two seasons with the Cardinals, the switch-hitter has gathered 232 hits, 46 extra-base hits and 62 RBI. He has a near identical average from either side of the plate, batting .284 from the right side of the plate and .274 as a lefthander during his time with St. Louis. Acquired mainly to serve in a utility role, he instead has proven to be a reliable regular with 202 starts in 268 games played. Aaron led the team with 19 infield hits last season and five bunt hits.
“Aaron has shown a great deal of versatility with our club over the past two years,” commented Cardinals Vice President/General Manager John Mozeliak. “He has proven to be a quality player both as a starter and off the bench and the value of a player like Aaron who can play several positions and hit from both sides can not be understated.”
Originally acquired in a trade with the Colorado Rockies December 2005, Miles became a free agent last month. He has just over four years service time in the Majors, with the majority coming with Colorado and St. Louis.

Let’s talk profit. Lots of it. Truck loads of it.
Now, let’s talk Bon Jovi, former Creed lead singer Scott Stapp, Rowing, Track and Field, Tickets.com, fantasy stats, the MLBPA’s Website, the MLB Player Alumni site, the Umpire’s Union website, MLB.com, Collectibles, MLB Game Day audio, ringtones, wallpaper, video and games for your mobile phone, plus media for handheld devices. The future? IP Television (IPTV).
What’s the connection? Media. Content. The Major League Baseball Advanced Media (MLBAM).
When the discussion of revenue streams rises to the surface in discussions about Major League Baseball, almost always, without fail, television is the area where the media latch onto. But in recent years, a considerable revenue—and more correctly, profit source—has been the MLBAM.
Launched in 2000, MLB.com was funded by the clubs in an agreement that had them each investing $1 million a year over four years. The cost was targeted at $120 million. To the joy of the owners and MLB, the Website started generating excess revenue in only the second year of its existence, allowing them to invest only $70-$75 million before beginning to see a return on their investment.
When the decision to launch MLB.com occurred, MLB moved all of its Internet rights into a centralized location. No longer were team Websites controlled by individual clubs; now they were under a single umbrella. This was the start of a focused effort to completely control and centralize all products and services provided on the Internet by MLB.
To put just a few numbers into the discussion, from 2004 to 2005 sales on MLB.com rose 220% from the year prior with a 200% increase in sales through just the MLB.com Shop. MLBAM revenues for 2005 are expected to rise 88% to $260 million, and annual revenue is expected to jump 30-50% over each of the next five years. A huge cash cow for the 30 owners in MLB that get to split the profits. Last year, the MLBAM inked a deal with Microsoft and AOL to stream MLB games live onto PCs. That deal totals as much as $40 million over two years from just Microsoft alone. AOL’s deal totaled $9 million over the same period.
But where MLBAM has been extremely savvy has been in the diversification of holdings under the Advanced Media’s umbrella. Not counting the season’s $9.5 million in online ticket sales, MLB.com will still rack up an estimated $25 million this year in sales and auctions of licensed merchandise and collectibles.
In November of last year, Tickets.com was acquired by MLBAM. This allowed for broader control of and centralization of MLB related ticket transactions. It made good sense, as MLBAM had inked a three-year deal in 2003 to cover the lion’s share of ticket sales for MLB.com and was the exclusive online partner, providing service to 20 of the 30 franchises. The purchase price by MLBAM came in at $1.10 for all outstanding shares and totaled approximately $66 million.
Just last week, MLBAM acquired a 10% share in World Championship Sports Network (WCSN) and will be managing its website. The Network is known for global sports like track and field, rowing, wrestling and gymnastics. This move allows MLBAM to diversify into sports outside of baseball. WCSN has currently streamed around 150 hours of content over the last three months, but as MLBAM President Bob Bowman said in an interview, “There will be more coming.”
Beyond sports, MLBAM has inked deals with rock bands such as Bon Jovi and former Creed singer Scott Stapp.
Looking at what has transpired, it’s enough to make one shake his head. After all, MLB has been known for being glacial on change to the game and to the way business is conducted. The idea that some of the “Lords of Baseball” don’t use e-mail or believe in it seems well within the realm of possibility.
What really makes this arm of MLB stealthy and an absolute moneymaking machine came to light somewhat quietly in October when the major league owners decided to scrap plans for an initial public offer for MLBAM. Bank of America, Goldman Sachs, First Boston and J.P. Morgan tried in vain to get the owners to go forward with the IPO. After all, they had good reason to want to see it happen, as these analysts predicted the value of the IPO to be $2-2.5 billion.
The reason it didn’t move forward? Full public disclosure. MLB opening up the books? You must be joking. Besides, can you imagine how it would look to roll into the next round of collective bargaining after dispersing those kinds of funds around 30 ways? Somehow I doubt that selling a luxury tax again would gain much traction with the players’ union, and forget about ever discussing a salary cap in the near-to-distant future.
So on occasion, find your favorite search engine and type in “MLBAM.” In the biggest case of irony, the arm that controls all this Internet and media technology doesn’t even have its own website. As I said … stealthy.

Red Sox to open World Series title defense in Tokyo with two-game series against Athletics
The Boston Red Sox will open their World Series title defense in Tokyo.
Following months of negotiations, the Red Sox agreed to a two-game series against the Oakland Athletics in Japan on March 25-26, and the commissioner’s office announced the trip early Wednesday.
With Daisuke Matsuzaka and Hideki Okajima, the Red Sox figure to be an attractive draw for the games at the Tokyo Dome. The Red Sox and A’s also will play exhibition games on March 23-24 against Japanese teams.
TICKETS -JAPAN
MLB.com will make tickets for the games at the Tokyo Dome available to Oakland season ticket holders through a private, internet-only sale at some point in December. If tickets remain after the private sale, the rest will be made available to the public, also online.
The A’s are designated the “home team” in Japan, so they’ll lose two home dates at McAfee Coliseum, but they will not be running the ticket operations for games played at the Tokyo Dome.

The Tokyo Dome area has really enjoyed all the fans coming in for the games. Still we are rooting for our Japanese team to win all their games and be the champions.”
One of the more popular destinations in Tokyo Dome City is the Baseball Cafe, which has a large caricature of Hall of Famer and World Baseball Classic ambassador Tommy Lasorda, reaching his arms out to welcome fans into the establishment.
Inside the decor is totally baseball with the walls and tables covered with baseball artwork and memorabilia. MLB Production’s “Memorable Moment’s” DVD is looped on the monitors around the restaurant and the waiters and waitresses all wear baseball jerseys of their favorite teams.

Ok so- its been a while,fast forward– I was almost there! Spring training- in ARIZONA- I have never been! Ok so it didnt happen, but I am still going to Arizona- havent had a good vacation in years..going to see a VIP-confidante, once in a lifetime friend, and stay a while. Im so excited I cant sleep….

The largest group of Hall of Famers at a Major League event in history will gather before this summer’s All-Star Game in Yankee Stadium, the league announced on Wednesday. More than 40 legends, including Robinson, Hank Aaron, Yogi Berra, Bob Feller, Whitey Ford, Reggie Jackson, Willie Mays and Cal Ripken Jr. are slated to attend, and to be honored during both a pregame ceremony and the All-Star Game Red Carpet Parade presented by Chevy.
The league also will pay tribute to New York City by featuring several city landmarks in its All-Star celebration. Major League Baseball will place 42 baseball-themed Statue of Liberty replicas at various locations around the city, and will illuminate the Empire State Building in red, white and blue lights throughout the weekend and during the game.
All the pomp is designed to make this All-Star game, the fourth in the Bronx and the eighth in New York City history, one of the most memorable ever. It will be televised nationally by FOX, in Canada by Rogers Sportsnet and Sportsnet HD, and around the world by Major League Baseball International, with pregame ceremonies beginning at 8 p.m. ET. ESPN Radio will provide exclusive national radio coverage, while MLB.com will provide extensive online coverage. XM will provide satellite radio play-by-play coverage of the XM All-Star Futures Game, scheduled for Sunday, July 13.
OK – Well I got a choice for some lower box tickets- for me and my Daddy! They were given to me – and are guaranteed to be primo seats– Since Dad’s hurt from golfing last week, I guess we will have to wait…. Im so excited….
